SIDA CAPABILITIES STATEMENT

SIDA founder

DARRYL SMITH

DARRYL SMITH is a visionary businessman with a professional finished carpentry and contracting background, the basis of which he and his wife Simone used to establish their family-owned and operated business. In 2001, the couple took the first two letters from each of their first names, to create and launch SIDA Enterprise, LLC.

Smith believes that anything a customer can imagine for the inside of their home can be achieved. It was with that mindset from the beginning, he and Simone came up with the motto for the business: “Your dreams to reality.”

“So if you come to me with something, and this is your dream, I’m going to make it happen for you,” Smith said.

BEGINNINGS

As a young adult, Smith got his first taste of contracting and building after performing wood flooring work in his parents’ rental properties.

Discovering that he really liked it, Smith initially wanted to do wood flooring. He got his start following the economic downturn in 2001 that resulted from the events of 9/11, and being laid off from his job as business manager for Gameworks.

To keep receiving his unemployment benefits, Smith was required by the Michigan Unemployment Office to get some form of training. While he asked to be placed in a wood flooring school for that training, his only options were accounting, for which he already had a degree in finance; nursing, in which he wasn’t interested, and the closest thing available to wood flooring, construction.  Smith of course chose construction, for which he found an affinity to carpentry once he realized he didn’t want to work outside in the cold. Thus began his lifelong career.

GROWTH

Smith became proficient in all aspects of interior construction as a result of the business taking off slowly with requests for a myriad of contracting services for which he was qualified, and began performing himself.

The father of three boys, Smith spent most of his early years in business focused on his eldest son’s athletic talent, and developing that talent into a professional baseball career. While SIDA funded his family’s lifestyle and his son’s career, Smith’s focus on operating the business took a secondary backseat.

Once his son was grown and his career journey had experienced ups, downs, and uncertainty, Smith realized that his own gifts, and his business, needed his attention in order to flourish. He then began to focus on SIDA, and the idea that the business should be the family legacy to leave to his children.

Looking more toward SIDA’s future; to expand his expertise, exposure, and relevance within the industry, he joined the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA).

As the business has grown, clients now call on SIDA Enterprise to do everything from their kitchens and bathrooms, to total remodeling inside their homes. Smith serves as project manager, directly supervising most projects, although because for him the work is creative expression, he still loves to do some of it himself.
